The Beat of my Drum

The Red Dress

The red dress clings to her every curve

Displaying the purpose her body will serve

The sheerness of the dress aiming to please

Every man in the room she has come to tease

The redness provides a contrast as stark

As all-consuming fire set against the dark

Her long, raven tresses flowing behind the gown

Compelling every eye to look her up and down

Stare all night long, she challenges them

But try to touch once and you’ll sing a requiem

This space is forbidden as incestuous adultery

Impenetrable to cunning, glib tongues, and flattery

Unless you lay down at the feet of this miss

Then and only then will you get to kiss

Her crimson red lips, and maybe caress

The glistening skin that is under the dress

The man now worships the one he defiles

As he bows and surrenders to her feminine wiles

Offering his heart and his soul as her slave

Finally conceding that he is but a knave
